Hematopoietic stem cells are multipotent progenitors capable of give rise to both myeloid and lymphoid cell lineages. Myeloid cells derive from a common myeloid progenitor lineage whose differentiation give rise to several cell-types such as myeloid and plasmacytoïd dendritic cells found in blood, mucosal dendritic cells found in skin, lung, or intestine mucosa, and monocytes that can alternatively further differentiate into macrophages or dendritic cells in tissues upon injury
