From: Human defensins 5 and 6 enhance HIV-1 infectivity through promoting HIV attachment
Defensin-mediated enhancement of HIV infection in heparinase I-treated cells. HeLa-CD4-CCR5 cells were treated with heparinase I at 37°C for 2 hours to remove cell-associated heparin and heparan sulfate (3:1). Cells were washed followed by exposure to defensin-treated pseudotyped HIV-JR-FL luciferase reporter virus for 2 hours. Infected cells were cultured for 48 hours. Difference between samples in cells with or without heparinase treatment was indicated (*, p<0.05). Data are means ± SD of triplicate samples and represent two independent experiments.
