Selective loss of intestinal CCR5+ and effector memory CD4+ T cells during early R5 SHIV-C infection. Total lymphocytes isolated from duodenal biopsies from SHIV-1157ipd3N4-infected pig-tailed macaques were analyzed by flow cytometry for CD4+ T-cell subsets based on expression of (A) CCR5+ (B) CD28-CD95+ (TEM) and (C) CD28+CD95+ (TCM). Percentages of subsets were obtained by gating on CD3+ T cells, lymphocytes, and then CD4+ T cells.
