Cytopathic effect of WT and mutant HIV-1 _NL4.3 on C8166 CD4 ⁺T cells. Cells were infected with equal amounts of virus, based on the p24 capsid protein. Three days post infection, the (mutant) virus-infected cell cultures were inspected using light microscopy to visualize syncytia formation and fluorescence microscopy to quantify eGFP expression.
