Screen of natural compounds led to the identification of triptolide as a novel anti-HIV-1 agent. (A) TZM-bl cells were infected with HIV-1 NL4.3 at an MOI of 0.5 in the presence of serially diluted test compounds. Virus replication was quantified by measuring luciferase expression at 48 h post-infection. The cytotoxicity of the tested compounds was evaluated in parallel with their antiviral assays. The anti-HIV-1 activity of each compound was presented as selective index, the ratio of CC50 to EC50. (B) Chemical structure of triptolide.
