The star-phylogeny can be examined by testing whether the level of diversity is two times of the level of divergence, which occurs when there is neutral selection in the absence of selective pressure for specific mutant strains. All of the 7 samples from animals r00065 and r98018 satisfy the relationship, diversity = 2 × divergence (blue line).
