Tissue functionality after pseudotyped virus transduction and/or parasite infection. Placental villi were dissected and immediately transducted overnight with VSV-G pseudotyped HIV-1 (V) (100 ng p24/placental block) alone or in the presence of blood trypomastigotes (BT) (106 parasites/placental block) or 24 h-supernatant of BT (BTSn). After infection or coinfection, tissue functionality of placental histocultures was analyzed by measuring total hCG secretion levels in histoculture supernatants by the chemiluminescence method at day 4 post-infection or coinfection. Results represent mean ± SD of duplicates and are representative of 5 independent experiments.
